melatonin
a poem
street lights
whisper through the blinds;
soft light
stripes across your arms and chest;
hot sweat.
cheap fan, floor mattress.
you & i.
no blankets.
my thoughts glide off your smooth skin
and escape with the heat
through the window screen.
everything i need
hangs like mist in the room.
wrapped up in your arms.
this is all i wanted—
to laze around like lions;
in and out of sleep.
each time i open my eyes
i see real life, and it’s sweet.
nothing matters but this moment;
nothing will matter again
til the morning.
