What a thoughtful reflection of culture and family history - the tangible pieces that are lost and the ideology and practices that unsettle themselves over time.
Culture in America is such a curious thing. I don't think there's any bits of my family's culture that have even been passed down. Just americanism.
One thing that does come to mind is in my patriarchal history, there's been loads of truck drivers. And my immediate family all love and prefer to drive and listen to loud music in the car. I'm not sure how cultural that is... But your piece has me thinking about what is passed down and what we carry with us that our ancestors carried with them, too.
Beautifully written and expressed. Thank you for sharing 🙏🏼
I really liked that. From looking at the outdoor murals and learning about the work it takes to maintain them and then transferring thoughts on that, reflectively to your own memories, and thoughts of family, loss and then, having started out looking at something from the past, considering the future.
This piece made me think of my ancestors that must be scattered around the globe! So many memories I could think of! What a fascinating read! Thanks for this beautiful poem. <3 :)
Thank you for another beautiful poem. After reading it, I naturally found myself thinking about my old memories and the people who were important to me. 😇
